Souderton Telford Main Streets

The idea of Souderton Telford Main Streets began about 2000 when both communities were encouraged to do a joint planning effort for economic revitalization by Montgomery County Planning Commission. This plan defined short-, medium- and long-term goals for both communities.

It identified the Pennsylvania Main Street program as a source for funding for a staff and for projects. Souderton Telford Community Development Corporation was incorporated as a IRS designated 501(c )3 organization  effective July 2002.

After reviewing the amazing list of accomplishments from the first Revitalization Plan in 2010, the communities spent nearly a year preparing an  updated version to guide the work to improve our communities for the next 7 to 10 years.

The initial Board came together to lay the groundwork for a Main Streets program. They developed a vision, a mission statement, a five year plan, annual work plans and budgets. They conducted a fundraising campaign for the required local match and both borough Councils committed a generous allocation of funds.

Pam Coleman was hired in March of 2006 as the full-time manager. STMS was recognized as a PA Main Street program when she was hired. STMS has been designated a National Certified Main Street Program by the National Trust for Historic Preservation's National Main Street Center for the past five years.

As the organization evolves out of the state Main Street funding program, the Board and volunteers are working to make the organziation self-sustaining. The list of projects yet to be accomplished is too long. Souderton Telford Main Streets has many years of work ahead of them.

The volunteers on the committees do an incredible amount of work to improve our communities. They run the Indian Valley Farmers' Market, the Telford Tree Lighting Ceremony and the Souderton Holiday Parade. they have incluenced the deisgn of the Marketplace at Telford Station and the streetscape in Souderton. They have developed resourcs to help new and exisitng businesses to thrive.

Beyond the very visible and permanent activities, they have spent countless hours reviewing and commenting on zoning ordinance changes, analyzing and compiling marketing data and creating this website.

You will see their faces throughout this site. This is truly a volunteer-driven organization. Without the laughter and elbow grease supplied by your friends and neighbors, none of the amazing things you find on this site would be possible.
